BMF applauds Simpson on first Indycar podium

The Barbados Motoring Federation (BMF) has congratulated Kyffin Simpson on his first podium finish in the NTT Indycar Championship. Island-born Simpson, a former 60cc Cadet Champion with the Barbados Karting Association (BKA) at Bushy Park, finished third in today’s 90-lap Ontario Honda Dealers Indy Toronto race.

In his second season in America’s senior category, his first top 10 finish came at Long Beach in April, since when fifth and sixth at Detroit and Road America, Simpson’s favourite circuit, has moved him steadily up the standings in the #8 Journie Rewards Chip Ganassi Racing Honda. Today, he finished behind Pato O’Ward of Arrow McLaren and Rinus Veekay of Dale Coyne Racing.

BMF President Senator Andrew Mallalieu said: “On a street circuit where everyone acknowledges that qualifying position means so much, it is just fantastic for Kyffin to have come through from 13th on the grid to finish on the podium. Kudos to him.

“In the closing stages, he held off the three-car power house of Andretti Global, led by Colton Herta, who had started on pole position and everyone had thought of as the likely winner, all crossing the line within four seconds. A great result for Kyffin and his team”

Editor’s note: the Barbados Motoring Federation (BMF) is the island’s governing body for motor sport, affiliated to the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) and the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM). It also represents the interests of its Member Clubs in discussions with Government departments which facilitate the sport in the island, in particular the Ministry of Transport, which permits road closures for an agreed number of events each year. Away from motor sport, the BMF affiliate which answers the FIA Mobility remit is the Barbados Automobile Association (BAA).
